Hybrid landscapes

How can we find new ways of seeing and describing landscapes? How can we reimagine and re-evaluate the concept and image of the landscape? And how can landscape, and with it agriculture, be reconceived and redesigned from a sustainable perspective?

The IBA Thüringen and the Künstlerhaus Thüringen association are working together with the farming organisations Landwirtschaft Kannawurf Betriebsgesellschaft mbH and agrar-GmbH Oldisleben to explore answers to these questions. A model for a new landscape typology for the 21st century is being developed for an area of 1,500 hectares. The aim is to enhance the (agricultural) landscape by consistently taking into account its design and visual characteristics as well as the impact of aspects such as ecology, economy and perception as well as education on the experience of the (agricultural) landscape. Every intervention in the landscape becomes a creative means that acts in combination with and in the context of all other means, as well in the context of the wider landscape of Kannawurf and its surroundings, contributing to the perception and experience of the (agricultural) landscape.

The elaboration and model implementation of a new landscape typology in Kannawurf aims to raise awareness of the way in which we develop and engage with the landscape, and to explore new perspectives for its agricultural use.
